Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning for stage describers.

Existing describers can obtain the Certificate of Audio Description Skills (Stage) by demonstrating that they have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge, and have reached the required standard.  This involves completing the same six assessment tasks as learners on the theatre course.  Describers negotiate a timescale for carrying out the tasks with the assessor assigned to them.  Most of the tasks can be completed by post or email.  The practical tasks, including live description, are carried out at the describer's chosen venue.  All six tasks must be completed satisfactorily in order to obtain the Certificate.

Individual fee: £460 plus Open College Network Yorkshire and Humber Region learner's registration charge, currently £25 per head.
